My Micro grid system

Maybe people might like some feedback on my system and it’s performance. :man_shrugging:t3:

Time to update the final additions, for now.

Protected the busbar cables properly by heat shrinking the individual cables and then double insulation over both cables and any exposed metal. Tidied up the rest of the wires, added the new DB box with the individual MCBs on the 2 Quattro outputs as well.

Re-wired the Quattro input and outputs to get wires balanced for even power distribution.

Man, that sure is one nice looking installation.

An overview.

Still a few minor things outstanding like the MPPT battery side disconnect switch, the generator lockout contactor to be wired and a few more lables etc.

Trying to decide if this should go to a thread… “I also want @Sarel.Wagner’ s nice toys”

Tell us about the FLIR camera meneer!

Chinesium brother…. :man_shrugging:t3: :grimacing:

Hti-301 IR for Android, a tiny lil bugger. IR resolution of 384 x 288 @ 25Hz. Nice resolution but at a higer than normal frequency as I detest those laggy 9hz units.

Quite handy for all sorts of troubleshooting in cars, aircons, house energy leakage, electronic and electrical repairs etc.

The Thermal view of the system’s components.

One thing I was still concerned about was the balancing of the loads between the 2 Quattros and also how effective my cooling of the “wrongly” mounted MPPT is.

And the Quattro balance, point being equal load being equal heat generation.

It looks like in balance from a heat signature point of view.

And the panels this AM before generation started

And generating power now

The specs for my SmartSolar MPPT is that is will be able to handle full load up to 40 degrees, so you should be fine with your side mount at 31 degrees. It would be intresting to see how that change when measured in winter vs summer.

One thing I learned a long long time ago was to trust but verify. I used to be a TV Broadcast engineer and later a cameraman and editor, even made and directed a few programs and commercials.

If I cannot measure some thing I am unable to properly manage said thing, hence the tools etc. etc… The Thermal Imager opened a whole new World for me.

And interesting, to me at least, is the sky temps…. Way -, even the little cloud.

You will have to start a tour to come an scan everyone’s system with that fancy tool you have

Well then, for those around Centurion, I will do so, it can be arranged. For those outside the Centurion area, buy me a plane ticket and feed me lunch and a beer :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :metal:t3: :beers:

Earlier this month flipped the main Isolater/breaker for the house. Off grid for all intents and going well. Could not make the Winter on Solar only, but then I knew that, still need to buy a wee bit of battery storage to get to my planned 48kWh raw capacity, about 37kWh usable.

Been running with no issues at all, thankfully. Did the upgrade to parallel Quattro 8kVA a while back, had to replace a fuse and that is about it. The fuse issue was my own undoing

Now been running very smoothly for about 15 months, so some stats….

Mighty happy, groetnis

I installed the CG meter mid-Jan 2022.
So that was the zero-point start.
I just cracked 22 MWh this morning.

Update time again, and a blown savings account :frowning: Purchased 8kWh to be added the battery bank. Will do the config and hookup tomorrow.
