More information here. Electricity (especially in the US) is about to do the same thing as the housing market.
The fastest growing part of the energy market is renewables. However, the BBB (Big beautiful bill) slashed those investments (because, you know, the IRA was a Biden thing and just had to be overturned), so no subsidies for renewables. Also, they want you to make solar panels in the US… but give no incentives for that, while taxing solar panel imports from China. So renewables is going to get more expensive.
Natural gas is plentiful, but turbines to run that gas through is not. The lead time to commission a new turbine now, is apparently over 5 years. Plus, LNG exports are profitable, so there is no reason to sell the natural gas locally if you can make more money by exporting it.
All of this means energy is about to get more expensive. Which is going to make nuclear competitive.
We also know that energy demand is going to go up sharply, for two reasons: Crypto, and AI. So betting on nuclear will probably pay off…
The consumer is going to get shafted though. And at least half of them will blame the solar panels and wind turbines they can see from their house, instead of the LNG exports and the nuclear plants they don’t.
Solar is going to get more expensive in the USA or everywhere in general?
Nothing we use in this business is made in the US so relax…
In the USA. Elsewhere it will probably get cheaper. Supply and demand.
Solar was always more expensive in the US. You literally get the feeling there are forces at work trying to delay that transition as long as possible…
The bit about HOAs in that video is kinda funny too. America! We can’t be free unless we have guns! Can you install solar panels on your own house, or cross the road anywhere if there are no cars coming? No, of course not, that’s not the kind of freedom we’re talking about.
Exactly - I’m hoping for batteries to start getting a lot cheaper.
Agreed!
The quote about the US that has stuck with me is:
In God we trust. All others pay cash!
Given their love of fireams, I would question their faith somewhat too…
(All of this is said mostly in jest, let me just say that right now… ).
Trump certainly thinks that the answer to all energy related questions is to burn lots of fossil fuel. Maybe (I’m busking here) because that’s his long suit. The USA has and/or can access lots of fossil fuel and can do so without having to invest in any of those pesky new-fangled infrastructute watchamacallems.
Plus there’s solar in California. What else do you need to know?
Largest oil producer in the world, except their own thirst is so big, they are actually a net-importer of oil.
It has been said that if the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem is a thumb.
