What hobbies, who collects what?

Man I am so exited today…

Saturday evening I was talking to someone about guitars and mentioned that I still want two Guitars in my collection. One being the Ovation… This person just happened to have one that he could not play for a few years due to arthritis messing up his fingers so badly that he cant press down on the strings anymore. He ended up blessing me with the guitar. Its a late 70s maybe early 80s vintage. I am collecting it from him next week when I am in Pretoria again.

I have a new addition!

Birthday present. It’s a Brymen TBM811.

Cons: Not True RMS.

Pros: Very decent probes, very sturdy construction, probes have holders in the back where you can either store them, or you can attach one probe there for when you need to hold the meter with one hand while probing. Frequency and capacitance measurements. DC measurement can also show you the AC ripple on top.

Has a PC-link interface in the back that I have no idea how useful it may or may not be, but in theory you can use it for logging.

It will also remind you if you forget the probe in the 10A socket to the left while switching to a different range, something that’s blown up a meter or two.

Not quite a fluke, but every review I’ve seen says it is on par for half the price.

Those Brymen’s are the bees knees for what they cost in comparison. I got the lil brother TBM27 shirt pocket style.

I use these calibrated calibrators, and my meters do check out.

Not to shabby.

Settled into my, hopefully last home before i go totally underground… I would love one of these…

Can I phone you tomorrow? I am in the market for something small like a vintage Proton, Nad or even Marantz for my new home… no new sound system will fit into my plans here…

Of all the people I know. @Gman knows the most stories of sound equipment … and solar manufacturers, electrical, and where to buy what, and a lot of other stuff…

There are quite a few on the various local hifi groups on facebook. Search for hifi sa or hifi south africa you will find them. General marketplace is mostly a scam. The private groups are way better tho.

Currently some cambridge audio, technics, pioneer etc on various groups.

Just a note - there has been a bit of turmoil on that forum (it was sold to a 3rd party), and most of the core members left and formed avtalk.co.za
