Victron Blue Smart 12/15 IP65 Charger skips bulk and straight to Absorb

Hi All

I just upgraded my firmware after a long while on the above charger and it now skips Bulk and goes straight to Absorb (<> 1 amp).

I see this has been an issue elsewhere - anyone here have something similar?

I can’t wait 50 hours to charge my new 100ah battery from 50%

What type of battery do you have and have you selected that on the Blue Smart Charger??

I’ve ticked all the boxes in the thread included…

If indeed firmware as suggested on Community, it’s quite conserning that Victron haven’t addressed it yet.

How old is your charger, maybe the only option left is to get it looked at under warranty, they might swop it out for you. If the new one works you should just remember not to update it again.

Have you played around with different factory battery profiles to see if the issue isn’t maybe only with the lithium profile?

Victron always leave backdoors open …

Ja. Seems to be an issue with the firmware.

Bought from a forum member around 2020 so will need to follow up. It seems the new chargers also have the issue.
I have used my own profile (custom settings, etc) and still the jump to Absorb.

Sadly @TheTerribleTriplet - you can’t find the firmware for the BlueSmart Chargers anywhere and no feature to load the firmware anywhere in the app.

One name: Riaan.

As an old gryshare having experience in industrial control (read: ‘no room for error’) I’m alarmed by this Victron slipup.
Any firmware/hardware upgrade is risky. If you have a system that is working fine there is no need to upgrade it. The saying: ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ applies
So all I can assume is that Victron has screwed up badly. This puts me off their offerings.
I recall Siemens had a PLC architecture (and is still in use which STUXNET expoited) that was very solid but could not be upgraded. They then introduced a new controller and I watched as the instruction set grew from unusable to mind boggling as they developed the platform (TIA Portal)
I chose to run with them and upgrade all the installations out there to keep them current. They didn’t let me down…

I don’t think so… I run many Victron products and love their updates, responsiveness etc.
This issue happens and can be fixed so I hope to get it sorted.
I wouldn’t just toss out a range of products for this reason. Never.

Some brand loyalty is nice. At the moment half of Europe is on summer holidays. But next week I think the right guy is back and I can ask.

On the other hand of the equation, sometimes I also wish I could fire some off-putting customers as easily…

Richard,

  1. Victron updates their products/firmware based on client feedback, having carefully considered the impacts.
  2. They also run extensive Beta testing before releasing.
  3. If they make a oepsie, it happens, they always fix. Always.

Like your experience with Siemens, you can be assured Victron has never let anyone down either.

Well that’s good to know. We’ll watch the progress they make in addressing this issue.
In the mean time you can buy this charger (no updates required):

Is it lithium compatible with Bluetooth? If so please post a link and I’ll consider it…

Rather use the Victron BMV 700 series battery monitor…
