we are a group of property owners in our street approaching the municipality to assist in the procurement and fitting of solar street lights with day/night switches in order to provide a modicum of light during load shedding - any tips on products and procedure?

The smaller Victron MPPTs all have that feature built in. You just add a light, PV and battery.
But there might be other solutions that are custom made for this.
Beka is one of the best lights out there. Maybe look at there solar products. We use Beka in the mine top quality, unfortunately we don’t use the solar ones.
