I see that water isn’t listed as an energy category but I think it has better prospects than small wind turbines.
Are there any hydros in SA that are working ok??
@Paul helped his neighbor get one going. Was not cheap.
Maybe he can share some pics.
I think wind can be more successful in SA than hydro because we don’t have that many running water options. I an starting to realise even wind won’t work in urban areas due to noise.
This is a small hydro that generates 500w. Don’t think many can do this sort of thing in a dry climate.
There’s a small hydro plant on a farm near Citrusdal. I’ve never seen it, but heard of it a few times. Of course they are somewhat lucky that they have running water.
If I am not mistaken, The Rupert farm near Franschhoek (L’Ormarins) also has hydro.
Yeah I like the videos online of guys building these micro hydro plants. But I can’t imagine many places have large volumes of water going dawn a “small” drop, or less water going down a long hill.
Here is a cool one. He is getting a consistent 750W from this setup.
He goes on about the Sunsynk how he connected his setup:
The settings he uses are the same you would use for a wind turbine.
