Except of course for sick patients, Doctors and Nurses hey, but you have a perfectly valid point! In no mood to visit any hospital…

No, I mean even if you are sick… a government hospital is not where you want to go.
My sister works in one, in another province. New nurse is appointed. Nurse cannot even insert a drip. She sent a letter to the MEC asking how it is possible that someone like this is appointed when she personally knows many qualified people who would love the job but are not considered.
(We know why, but to keep it PG, I will not say it).
This just gives me the … never mind.
I don’t see a “bit of a spike” … I see inexorable slipping and sliding towards a cataclysmic “perfect storm” one of these weeks … Sarel’s words: “It’s true I always tell the truth, I am lying…:”
Me being a realist here BTW … or show me proof I’m wrong i.e. that Eskom “got this”?
Don’t believe a word he (what is the pressies name again) and his ministers are saying … “PC” platitudes year after year after year even using the near EXACT SAME WORDS!
My bet … We are going to see OFFICIALLY Stage 7 due to “maintenance”, the lack thereof. We are being “prepped” for it. We take Level 4 as a daily “bleh” already.
Yes, I fully buy into the hesitance of Eskom to declare any stage above 6 … they are BSing us.
There is a bit of a spike. Normally they take around 4MW out on maintenance. We had around 6MW out on maintenance and at present we’re around 5.1. That is about 25% more than usual.
The trouble is, the rest of the fleet is slipping, and that is much more noticeable. 16MW is out on unplanned outages.
On top of that, things they needed to give them breathing room, like Koeberg coming back, is delayed.
So I do believe they aren’t lying. Not completely anyway. Yes, they are doing more maintenance. Yes, all those things will come back at some point and make things better. But the question on our minds is whether that will happen before the 16MW that is out gets even worse.
N…O…
50/50 chance … takes the “perfect storm” and we see the wrong side of the 50% …
OR … a turbine or more catastrophically reaches EOL due to lack of “maintenance”.
Yes, but as someone said … no parts or wrong parts, make do at times, no skills really left onsite, equipment extremely old … blah blah blah …going through the motions just to keep it going … till the next breakdown, let’s call it “maintenance”?
Maintenance repairs, Koeberg is maintenance, Steenbras was maintenance … Kusilie, Medupe … all them stations with the EAF dropping, is “showroom maintenance” … is my “feeling”.
Boys, I still have a positive outlook on this (Doller as kop-af kan dit nie), but I still think we’re going to see stage 7 before year end. I don’t see any other way.
Tis here Leopard ain’t changing them spots me afraid…

I will one up you…
Given that we are getting 3 (Well technically 4) Kusile units back and given the rapid deployment of SSEG.
I think we might might just dodge stage 7
PositieweGroetnis
Methinks, SSEG … we don’t have the storage for the evenings yet … so Eskom is still fully committed at night …
Kusile on time … yeah ok … will see.
Things break “unforeseen” … yeah, everything is mos unforeseen.
The fleet is aging “faster” … only so much that can be done, hence the 50/50, and the "inexorable slipping and sliding towards a cataclysmic “perfect storm” "
Man, I’ve worked for companies that went under many times in the past. I know what it is like. Things become simultaneously foreseeable and unforeseeable. It becomes 50/50. You work hard to get it back on track. You may even believe that it absolutely will get back on track (because the alternative is unthinkable).
But… if you have a house in Harare today, it is still worth something.
Funny dat, in the US, coal plant of the same age are still performing to design specs, some even close to EAF of 80%, most better than 70%, still 40 plus years old.

They must have changed the oil regularly…from cans
We need some more local colour in this thread…
Conspiracy theories: Rodriguez is dead stories.
How about this one: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/368261-Loadshedding-is-government-driven-to-stimulate-economy
I saw that and packed up laughing!!!
Reminded me of me … sitting in a conversation, a boring one, where no one really talks, then I make a contro-conversational point, one that is based on subjects close to the people’s hearts, sit back and watch the conversation go from hero to zero, the people argue the living daylight out of each other. The next morning, they all tell each other what a wonderful evening it was. Time and time.
One or two people have watched me and said, you bugger! You did that on purpose!
Some posters on forums also know I sometimes do the same to get people to become chatty. All in good spirits obviously…
But this thread has consistently been “self-moderated” against reporting that was intentionally written to elicit emotions and so far I think we have kept it very well in line with facts and factual things in and around Eskom, that CoCT appears to have a real chance at reducing LS levels.
The most viewed threads on this forum, solid interesting points of discussion.
This thread, the chattiest one
A mutual friend of ours picked up on this quickly, and told me about it…
Saying that Load Shedding is government driven, something something economy, is like saying I’ma shoot myself in the foot… something something healthcare.
(It is government driven, alright, but not in the planned sense… rather in the we-suck-at-planning sense).
Reminds me of years ago when some report came out saying that the situation at Eskom was “self inflicted”. Oh dear… off went the rumour mill… “This was planned!”… “After the election, suddenly the power will be on again!”… “Every time they want a rate increase we have load shedding”… etc etc.
No people. If I’m running with scissors in a dangerous way, and I end up hurting myself… that was unplanned, but still self-inflicted.
But the papers who rely on the rage-economy at least did well with that one.
Not after, before elections … rate increases, yeah … I do have an inkling to consider for a moment that here and there some clever oke with serious clout in gov could have had a brief epiphany to maybe grab at straws a time or two … opportunity presenting itself and all that … and just pulled such a move.
Dang, if I was there and so inclined, and needed more “funds”, I could maybe have considered that myself even, not that I would have, or are so inclined!
And IF the person is caught dipping, just play it off as conspiracy theories with the help of a Bellpottinger-type Co, and make it into a conspiracy theory.
Why would one even contemplate such a view!? … cause sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.
Always with good intentions … always.
Sometimes, yes. Most of the time? Most of the time the truth is boring.
Want to know the truth? Think about the most boring thing that explains it. Especially if a lot of people is required to be in on “the truth”. That is your truth… 99% of the time.
(Occam’s Razor and all that too).
