I hate that expression for the same reason I hate ābear with meā. Because technically you create a precedent (from precede, to go before), but because the word sounds the same and spell checkers will not help you, we now ābare with youā, which I suppose is a bit like skinny dipping, and weāre creating presidents 
And on top of that, the fact that English people donāt pronounce the word as written is not doing us any favours.
The Afrikaans word is, of course, presedent. Want ons almal kry dit uit Fransā¦
