In recent weeks French, Dutch and Spanish rail services have been interrupted by cable theft.
Most recently the Eurostar service was disrupted by the theft of 600m of cable in Lille.
Similar events have occured in Spain and the Netherlands.
It may be something more than just theft. Lille is a major interchange point for European rail networks, and an outage there has major consequences.
The Dutch outage was due to damage to the cables conveying power to rail networks. Authorities have speculated that the intent may have been to disrupt a NATO meeting.
Outages in France and Spain were because signalling cable had been removed.

OK, that is funny. Because there was a time I liked to listen to “Radio 10”, a Dutch station, in the car. And then TuneIn decided people outside the region may not listen to it anymore, because a bunch of British lawyers representing music companies decided the music is not licensed for those other countries. Which is all dumb as garden soil, but that aside, I recently discovered they have an app, and the app works rather well with Android Auto. Seamless foreign radio in the car.
Anyway, so the first news report that comes up after my re-discovery of Dutch radio… is trains are out between Schiphol and the Southern parts of Amsterdam, because of cable theft.
It turns out we’re not the only people with crime.
