Any recommendations for a pump?

Application is a tank fed from the municipal supply. Of course there has to be a pump between the outlet side of the tank and the house.

A JoJo branded pump was supplied as part of the installation. This is almost certainly badge engineered. Googling shows me several other pumps with different brand names but clearly the same thing.

It certainly works, is certainly varispeed, but

  1. the 750W pump can draw up to 840 (per my Kill-A-Watt)
  2. noisy, with an annoying high speed whine (it is noisier than the heat pump just a couple of meters away, or the pool pump).

I am going to try applying some sound-proofing material to the inside of the cover and see if that helps. If it doesn’t, I may have to think about an upgrade.

Any brands I should be considering? Has to operate at 230VAc.

Nobody’s complained yet, but it’s early days, except for grouchy old me who thinks this is unacceptably loud.

The lower the power consumption the better, as it’s running from the inverter.

Per the manual it is

  • 4.5 bar max pressure
  • 66 lpm max flow
  • most efficient at 13 to 40 lpm

I know it is not a generator, but if one can dampen their noise, then a pump is easy peasy.

One quick Google:

Me, liking pictures:

As I said in the other thread, from what I read in the past that pump suffers from plainly poore design, hense the noise, some people managed to improve it by experimenting with different screws, tightening or just moving the covers etc.

I have a 1.1 kW sentryphical pump, I can’t even remember the brand now, will let you know later. However it is also one of those which looks exactly the same under different brands. The noise it makes is totally different from those Jojo pumps, even if the pump was right against my house wall it would have been bearable, it doesn’t have a high pitched whine at all.
PM me your phone number and I’ll send you a Whatsapp voice message to demonstrate, I’ll compare it with my 12k BTU aircon compressor, which should give you a good idea.

Yeah. I thought about something like that. I would trust myself to get some sort of dampening material and apply that to the inside of the pump cover. It can’t make anything worse.

That’s kind. Thank you.

I presume this pump has an integrated pressure switch which maintains the water pressure?
If so then this pump will start/stop every time a tap is opened. Have you considered installing a pressure vessel which will store a ‘head’ of pressure and reduce the duty cycle of the pump?

Right now I feel like throwing that pump a long distance. It started running randomly with no taps open. But it may not be the pump’s fault. It is leaking at one of the connections, and I am guessing that the pump sees this as a demand for pressure.

Yes a leak will definitely cause it to run. If it was me I’d tell the installer to come fit a different pump, see if he would take the Jojo back or offer it to him for 90% of the cost or something.

I sent you a whatsapp BTW.

DAB Esybox. Works like a charm, but not at all cheap. Takealot has some of the best prices. 750watt, 1.1kw and 1.5kw available. 750 more than ample for the normal household, but then again, what is normal?

Easybox

Thanks. The DAB is certainly well recommended. It also is not cheap.

And I still need a plumber. I am not going to try to replace the pump. No sir! Experience has taught me that if I get ideas about plumbing that involve more than changing a tap washer, it is going to cost me double to get in a competent person to clean up the mess.
