Dis waar dit was ja … waar die inverter moes uitgehaal word … wat ek gedog het so slim was. 
Nou aan die ander kant van daai area. Daai “vented” kas steek nou die opgradeerde DB’s weg.

So het ek nog nooit oor 100m verloor nie. Nog nooit in die gesig geslat want ek kyk nie om … en dit met haar skoene … sy het mos gese “walk in MY shoes”.
DIs blykbaar goed om 'n myl te loop in jou vrou se skoene. Dan is jy 'n myl weg van haar… en jy het haar skoene.
Dit gaan bietjie moeilik wees as ek nie eers my tone in daardie skoene kan pas nie!

… and I like tough problems. Gets the blood going.
When we switched on after the re-install, got an instant Error 8 again … I suspect the earthing of the panels.
What has been done to date - one thing at a time:
- All the DBs (3) of them were upgraded.
- Panel earthing was changed from the earth peg, never a problem, to the DB. Just in case.
- Then week ago the installer found a lug on one earth wire at the panels that was rusted off. Fixed, and array inspected. All checked out up there.
- Made 100% sure that the two surge arrestors are properly connected.
- Last thing left to do … earth the MPPTs casings to the same earth as the inverter.
The challenge is to be able to replicate the error on demand. That is always the toughest with any troubleshooting. When one can do that, replicate it, YES!!! … rest is mundane again.
Have not had an 8 am LS error again. So the “problem” moved.
Mmm moved means not solved. This is worrying.
But at least you gave seemingly your entire system a good work over and found potential other issues that would serve well in eliminating future possible causes.
Please do give feedback when it starts again.
Just for the record, none of my panels are earthed, and none of my MPPT’s and I have no surge arrestors anywhere in the house.
I do have an earth spike ready and hammered deep into the ground for this. It will happen with my upgrade. Will ask that panels go to that as well. But then again, if it ain’t broken, why fix it?

Right, having had multiple LS in the mornings since the last error, with “no luck” … again, I opted to have the inverter replaced.
Simple logic: If the new unit goes up:
Option 1: And the error persistently stays away, then it was the relay all this time. How, no one knows.
Option 2: If the error persists, then as per (Error 8: Ground relay test failed on Victron Multiplus II GX - #62 by plonkster), then there is a blerrie persistent intermittent issue on the wiring of the house … but only during LS.

There is some sort of issue causing the bond to measure open when it should be closed. The new inverter measures this in a different way, so whatever effect the house wiring, grounding, bonding, AM radio stations, or whatever has on this reading, will now go away. The mechanism is different. The only way this same error comes back, is if the relay in the new unit is actually broken.
Don’t jinx it … you know by now that I get the weird and wonderful ones!
So the new warranty exchanged inverter is installed.
Man, I’m SO glad of the new mounting, it made the swap out a breeze.
The trunking is perfectly still in place.

Now let’s see how this new one behaves … a few months at least … the syncing sounds totally different.
In the normal relay test, it does one of the tests twice (checking relay K4), but now it doesn’t have to do that anymore. So it should sound a little different. I’ve never heard it though.
A YouTube video would be interesting to hear the new relay tests.
This is mine recorded:
After the relay test, it takes around 2-3mins to sync and another relay “click”
You should be able to hear roughly 8 clicks. There are 5 relays involved in this (4 on the newer inverters), but some of them are switched on simultaneously during that step, so won’t be audible.
If you ever have the opportunity to hear a PV inverter, you will hear the same.
The ABB/Fimer is fairly fast, but not as fast as the Multi.
The Solis absolutely takes its time, with about a second between each step.
The Fronius is very quiet, you basically hear only the big contactor pulled in at the end.
Sounds like my “old” one … new one sounds differently. At least, I thought so.
