Simplest solution to power cameras during outages

The issue with boost converters isn’t necessarily unique to boosting. It has to do with the ratio, and buck has its own issues (eg, a very small duty cycle below the limit of your control might be required, or high stresses on the switch). In such cases you would then incorporate a transformer into the design and take advantage of the turns ratio in that component. Once you do that, there is really no reason a boost converter cannot go to wherever you want.

I have a couple of boost converters myself, based on the MT3608 chip.
