So a bit of an update for those interested…
Got my Mopeka’s, the app is pretty intuitive and works ok however (may be wrong) it seems like it only updates the bottle levels if you open up the app (and are near enough to the gas bottles) so for my use case isn’t really an option.
Fortunately I’ve also added the ESPHome BLE device which works pretty well and I’ve now got the gas bottle levels in Home Assistant and have automations setup when the bottles drop to 1%
I’m quite lucky that the one bottle is just about empty at 4% so I should be able to test its accuracy for empty bottle detection quite soon, interestingly the app is saying the bottle is empty and ESPHome (manual bottle config) is saying it has 4%, I’m still getting flames so it certainly isn’t empty.
My one observation is that the BT range is significantly reduced when the sensor is placed underneath the bottle as its then essentially in a metal shield killing most of the low power RF signal and would have liked an option for an external antenna. Luckily I’m able to place the BLE repeater in a location that is quite central to both bottles so the signal workable but I may just add a second one so each has its own dedicated sensor close by.
