Home Automation and setting loads based on battery status and load shedding

For myself, the main reason I want to run HomeAssistant on something other than a Rpi, is because even the best SD-cards tend to fail eventually. I know I can add an ssd or emmc to a pi, but a well-priced Intel Atom based box is even more attractive to me.

I use a Lenovo PC with Win10, soon 11, that runs HA in Hyper-V as well as the Firewall, also Linux-based, also on a Hyper-V Pc.

Multiple uses for this Lenovo, it also being the ā€œmedia centerā€, and the central encrypted data storage.

Think it uses like Ā±30w sitting there.

What I do is, run proxmox on the intel nuc, then run HA in a VM. Then you can easily backup the whole VM which in my opinion is easier to restore than reinstalling HA and then restoring a backup.

Thank you. This video has really been informative. I managed to get an Intel NUC i7 for a very good price.
