No you’re right, I probably do need to spend more time with her. I’m not honestly sure if it will make a difference in this case - she really just loves exploring outside of the gate (she waits for the gate to open when I’m walking to my car in the morning for that moment it opens up and she can run out - smelling the bushes / tree right outside the gate and then occasionally she wanders off) but I can’t really say that it won’t help.
Ugh, adult responsibility.
So my dogs would both just go out exploring if they get the chance to go out. They don’t run away and it is easy to get them back, but my nerves can’t deal with it. My solution is that they aren’t allowed to be in the front garden when people are coming and going. It is cheap and very effective. Still more than enough backyard for getting dirt into my house.
