Here, let me “Brick it” … (break it in capey taal) … properly.
sorry @Richard_Mackay - we know your intentions were noble, starting this thread - but it is a risky endeavour with a bunch like us
Rodreguez must be one of SA’s iconic discoveries. What puzzles me is how he missed out getting a break in the rich world. There’s no doubt about his talent since his music has endured since then.
I’m sure in the US there must have been racial prejudice. (He wasn’t a good US white kid). Even Hendrix couldn’t break through in the US. He had to go to the UK and they recoginsed his talent and then the US accepted him once he was established.
Eish! The music industry
well, for a while he at least broke through to a couple of us, he ain’t a beaute, but neither is paganini - but boy, did they tweak them strings
one thing nicolo couldn’t do is to play the violin with his teeth - jimmy did get a bite at it though…
Now you just had to go and do that… trigger another memory of mine
Paganini wrote this thing, Caprice no 24, which had some kind of a mesmerizing effect on other composers, and one of the most beautiful ones was by Rachmaninoff. Now you may wonder, how in the world did you get from such an angular bit of violin music to such a bit of pretty piano music? Well, you take the original, from the minor to the major, change the key, and then flip it upside down.
Jeremy Begbie explains it well here. Skip to the 2 minute mark to go directly there. Also, warning, lots of theology in this one, you have been warned
tx @plonkster , memories are a dime a dozen here
you know me, i’ve never been shy on that - bach is one of my heroes - and yes, i’ll check it out
