Eskom ... is there ANY chance? In CPT there is

I monitor the frequency at different locations, and it does seem that we spend more time at 50.2Hz. There is a specification that it should be very close to 50Hz on average over a set period of time, but clearly that has gone out the window as evidenced by your clocks.

Is the frequency location based? I’d imagine it to be pretty much set in stone for the grid as a whole?

@plonkster perhaps you are introducing a whole extra hertz of harmonics with all your equipment. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m seeing regular 49.85 and 50.36 Hz fluctuations

Or the warning systems failed?
Or no-one checked?
Or the gov said “Ignore the warnings, keep going!!!”?

Those are my exact amounts as well. Though the 50.36 seems to be the steady state almost. Not really a peak.

It’s mostly the same everywhere in the country, except when it’s 0Hz, in that case it helps to have a different site for reference.

(These locations are quite far apart)

I have never seen it that high, perhaps a measurement anomaly?

Could be. Also, It was a 50.9 that I rounded up, so may not have been real.

Over the last 24 hours, I see minimum 49.85Hz, Max 50.36Hz, Average 50.15Hz, and the Mode (measurement that comes up most often) is 50.1Hz,

That 0.15Hz may well explain the clock drift.

How do you think the average Eskom employee feels when he goes to work on Monday morning to be confronted with this dire situation??

Average employees in most large companies probably care very little about their product/service or the company itself. However, the above average ones are probably quite depressed and can use as much of our support and appreciation as we could muster.

Anyone who has been in IT long enough knows what happens. After two weeks of “the same sh*t different day”, a level of despondency sets in. After that, you can forget about deadlines. Nobody gives a… uuhmm… nobody cares.

they care less… I know from experience.

Sug.

I burst out laughing … One says no the other says we will.

In case anyone wants to read … I glanced at the articles and thought: “Bleh … heard this before.”

We can hit stage 8-11 … depends on multiple factors that Eskom does not have control over, nor does the Gov, and “clickbait” articles sell papers.

What will be will be.

One may be inclined to wonder how they will prevent going to level 8 or beyond when more units break down…

I think I have a solution for your problem. If you figure out this puzzle, it should help figuring out the LS puzzle too
