Eskom ... is there ANY chance? In CPT there is

Difference is the political will, that logical view and reasonable man is out of place in this case as we all can hear what the political elites are saying. And the Law is only applicable if some bureaucrat is told, and or willing, to apply the Law. Political views and all that…

OK, this is funny. I googled “How much cyanide is needed to kill a man” and the first link asks me if I am suicidal. I guess that makes perfect sense, but it is still a dark kind of funny.

Oi, that is dangerous to google that, and talking of the victim, they will come for you…

As long as he didn’t google it before the attempted murder. Which would look suspicious.

So Wikipedia says:

Levels of 0.5–1 mg/L are mild, 1–2 mg/L are moderate, 2–3 mg/L are severe, and greater than 3 mg/L generally result in death.

News24 (paywall, but google exposes enough) says:

The hydrogen cyanide level in De Ruyter’s blood was 41.31 micrograms per litre…

so definitely very MILD by the above standard.

HCN (Hydrogen Cyanide) is soluble in water, in fact that is how it is transported if my reading is correct. On it’s own it boils off at a little over room temperature.

Just based off the physics, it looks as if the dosage wasn’t intended to kill, but to scare. That is assuming it was arranged by a professional.

It’s still not going to escape an attempted murder charge.

Remember, not only concentration, but also exposure time, what was in him prior to the coffee…

True, but the indication also seems to be that symptoms show up within minutes, which makes the coffee (one news source said it was a cup of espresso) the most likely meduim. Given the bitter taste of Cyanide, a very strong shot of coffee is also by far the best way to attempt to hide it… at least, that’s what I would imagine. I have no idea how detectable the strong bitter almond taste would be above the strong bitter coffee taste.

Perhaps in hot coffee it boiled off enough before he drank it that the dose was much lower than intended?

Here is another case of murder by Cyanide. A single sip of tea was sufficient in this case. This was a cooled drink though.

Apparently Eskom will move to Minerals Dept, Mantashe…

Groetnis

That would be VERY interesting to see what this means for Eskom’s future.

… probably part of the “trade” Rama had to do to get Mantashe to back him to stay on as Pressi.

Oooh goodiie… we’re going to sell another boat-load of Multis and Quattros… Thanks uncle Gwedie ‘king coal’ Mantashe!

The crazy part is, some of those will be going to existing customers like myself, My 3kVA Multi was perfectly acceptable back when loadshedding was a “every now and then” problem, but at this rate I am looking at the 10kVA model so that I can connect more loads that can be considered “essential” with loadshedding happening every day like the stove and the aircon in my room

I’m in the same position. I’m considering an upgrade soon. What I have to find out is if it’s better to go for a Multi-RS at this point in time, or another Multiplus. Plans are to do it towards March…

Some problems I have with the Multi RS :
I can’t parallel it later on with another, and the 6kVA just sounds a little too small to commit to no further expandability. whereas with the 10kVA of the Multi is a little safer if you have to accept that fate.

The 15S pack in my pylons drag down the potential output even further.

For me, a 6kVA is going to tick all the boxes. In fact, the other option is a 5kVA Multi-II.

If it was only my household that I wanted to keep powered the 6kVA would also have done the job, but I have 2 flats on the property that I also want to hookup.

The last comment on this, you guys are derailing my Eskom thread.

I made 3 families fit on a 5kva … they want more, told them to bring their credit cards then.

Jokes aside. Just in case anyone thinks I am cheering for this disaster. It is not sustainable. As I always say, solar systems and inverters are for people who want to stay in SA. People who want to help. The way this is heading, I sometimes wonder if I should be throwing any more money at this at all…

Well you raise a very good point there, I actually told my wife we should talk to the tenants and perhaps say: Listen the annual rent increase is X but if you are both willing to pay Y extra on top of the annual increase I can provide you with backup power?
To me that sounds like a win-win for everyone involved and they get backup power for a fraction of what a similar solution would cost them.
And if the Eskom coal fleet EAF continues on this down trend it could be no-brainer.
