Eskom ... is there ANY chance? In CPT there is

With the SANDFs stellar reputation of not stealing vehicles, murdering people (documented cases) or stealing weapons, what could possible go wrong here, nothing me thinks…

That’s the joke… yes

It sounded like you were arguing that the ANC is keeping patronage by paying people (in their capacity as “the government”) an overly decent salary. Sadly, the reverse is the case.

But then…

Your argument seems to be that a few individuals with a lot of influence are paid to do such influencing. That is probably true, although I doubt how many ordinary people on street level really cares how much the local Mafia boss is being paid.

Social grants would be far more effective in this role, and even that… I doubt people would sell their vote for that kind of money IF there was another option (from their perspective). That is and remains the problem. The biggest game around in terms of the opposition… is believed to be a bad option.

And even NUM has 2 cents to add …

Man, when people start to recognize there is a problem, that is not good.

This part:

Now “low levels of demand” combined with “almost doubling its burning of diesel”, yeah, “the future prognosis is not looking good”.

Though about this, you are right.

But one must look for the subtle nuances over time.

Like “Solank ons nie die probleem van beurtkrag oplos nie, sal mense nie in Suid-Afrika belê nie en die tekort aan inkomste nie opgelos word nie.” … when it comes for the Ramogopa officially, him still keeping his job, and no “backlash” from his fellow ministers.

That after he sold us on no more LS, which is old news. Same ole same ole.

Official comments from officials, in other words. Subtly indications towards a new narrative/heading possibly coming.

The De Ruyter interview out of the blue, the “cherry on the cake” moments.

The “chickens are coming home to roost” when officials change the narrative.

Ag. Julle ouens praat eintlik maar net so baie soos ons minister, en eintlik weet nie een van ons veel meer nie. Ek gaan slaap. Nag mense.

Liewe genade …

Poor people who lost the R36 million…:frowning:

The would be you, me and us

Not directly but yes - indirectly… Although I am almost “net zero” Eskom so not to bothered personally.

Okes have been selling those tokens on Facebook! I dobbed one “merchant” in to Eskom. IDK if they did anything about it.

Your Tax monies stolen, so yes you. They were selling electricity that your tax bailed out….

Being a millionaire now isn’t what it used to be.

On our suburb FB page, city councillors (the directly elected type) have come under fire, some of it abusive and a lot of it fuelled by ignorance of how council actually works.

So a Code of Conduct was circulated in an attempt to foster some understanding. The highlighted part was the rule that says that Councillors have no power to direct or command any City resource (Jhb roads, City Power etc) and that attempting to direct or influence the working of any of these departments or any of their staff or contractors is a punishable offence.

But you always get one. I read the whole thing. And I found this
“8. A councillor who is a full-time councillor may not undertake any other paid work, except with the consent of a municipal council which consent shall not unreasonably be withheld.”

They also have to declare ALL income, including pensions, rentals, dividends etc.

Now if our elected representatives are required to ONLY be elected representatives, can’t have another job and so turn up at Parliament/Council only when they have no other business to attend to, then I don’t see a problem with them getting appropriately remunerated.

Where I lost all faith was when said elected representatives:

  1. Do not attend Parliament/Council meetings because they are “busy”
  2. With no proof of being “busy” as they have added no value whatsoever to the people they represent.
… yet they earn a smacking lekker salary doing who knows what.

And THAT is the problem we are facing today in SA.

Wrong people are appointed in official positions, not because of their skills to get the job done.

Our Ward councilor, man, you ask her anything on WA, and she gets the job done, answers are given. She gets the bigger council to “do their jobs” if and when needed. Feedback sommer quick too.

And don’t anyone come with (like she did the one time) things like “we want a dog walking park”, she will step in and shut that down chop chop because 1) there are dog parks already, 2) some dog owners do not pick up their dog turds and that annoys the Shiite out of the rest and 3) kids play there and some owners think they can let their dog off their leash “to run around free” 4) when most people using the parks do not even own dogs, 5) the costs involved for the fencing.

A councilor earning her pay … and here is the joke. She is NOT even CLOSE to being a millionaire.

That was sort of where I nitpicked what I thought you were saying. We cannot claim at the same time, that the ANC garners support through paying people well, while at the same time criticising them for not paying their people well.

I think we’re seeing the same thing you see in every country: A few well-connected people keep each other in power.

Ditto. My original core point.

Ultimately, in a functioning democracy, once you lose your “struggle credentials”, or an option shows up that cannot be dismissed as too white, you cannot remain in power. This is a matter of time. The question is whether it is time yet, and somehow I see the ANC having another 5 years to get it right…

Also turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.

The Johannesburg DA Caucus seldom shut up about how Council is just a waste of rate payer’s money. But when time came to vote on increases for members of Council, they supported the increase.

I suppose their argument would be that THEY give good value, it’s those people on the other side of the chamber that are the money wasters.

This ‘race card’ is rapidly losing it’s credibility thanks to those who have said dis mos k@k!
We are seeing this with our national rugby team and the likes of De Ruiter. They just don’t buy into it and the incumbent ANC who do and play that card often will be seriously threatened.

I thought I’d share this here seeing how we (@TheTerribleTriplet) like to complain about loadshedding blocks. City Power took over managing loadshedding from Eskom in (most of) Johannesburg, here was my Stage 2 for yesterday evening:
18:00 - 20:30
22:00 - 00:30
04:00 - 06:30

That’s a nice 7.5 hours (they tend to switch on after ~20mins here, so I’m counting it) over 12 hours in Stage 2.

Now yes, full disclosure they did say that they are working on fixing it as some suburbs are not correct and this was most likely also on the schedule shifting day (Thursdays vaguely rings a bell for that), but wow you’ve had some upset people in neighbourhood groups.
