Nice Cell interconnects

These are very nice cell connectors - but holy moly - the price!

Is there anything like this available in SA ?

What about China - any solid reliable source for something like this? I doubt these are made in the NL - got to be coming out of China somewhere.

I want.

The text is in German? I mean, close enough probably (just across the border)…

I doubt they are made in the EU at all. But damm they are nice - gotta be low resistance on these. But how many do I need for a 16s setup….hmm makes them pricey.

Think of it like this, pay $60 USD for an LF304 (ex China) and pay 45 EUR for two cell interconnects. Doesn’t make sense. The other way to look at it is, look how cheap LFP cells have become.

We can make our own cell interconnects out of a thick copper bar stock but how do we get the flexible part in the middle ?

then crimp some pieces of 15mm copper pipe over the end, solder and drill?

Probably too crude though. Surface quality and contact area would be poor.

I have some like these somewhere.

Think they are for 100ah cells.

I think its just some shrink sleeving..

Contact a panel builder and ask if they can fabricate these..

I believe these are made with lots of thin copper strips layered and this gives some flexibility.

Why does it need to be flexible?

Flexible is good to have so that the cell posts dont get any (or as little as possible) stress on them as the cell expands and contracts with charge/heat/age (so cycles)

I wonder if this could be done with ALuminum strips? Thin strips that get pressed together at the ends ?

If we could work out how to do this, we could make our own pretty beefy cell interconnect’s - way thicker then one can purchase. Why? to get the amp carrying capacity UP, to be able to dissipate a lot of heat and to have as little resistance as possible.

Finding these ready made is challenging , so a DIY approach could be worthwhile for these items (because we do need a lot of them)

Gee those you shared the link for are also expensive - approx $14 each. The ones available in SA I mean.

Need to figure out how to DIY these. There is money to be saved here if one has the tooling setup needed either at home or at work to do it.

Once before I bought big mother busbar from a supplier.

Then I had them cut into the lengths I wanted, holes drilled and threaded for the bolts I use.

Find the parts, take to a shop that works with metal.

And that is pretty much my plan - except busbar made like that has no allowance for any movement . and the cells ARE moving as they charge/discharge.

I’m not sure what the current best practices around this is.

I see some people clamp the cells, specifically to keep them from moving too much.

Then in the Boeing 787, the LTO LiCoO2 battery they use there specifically has space so they CAN move…

?

Can I interest you in some copper busbars? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/855407753813537/

wrong side of the cape for me

Be interesting to know what they use for cell busbars. Being Boeing it will be solid.
